Collection: About the Freestyled art collection
The designs of our newest ‘’freestyled art’’ collection are made through a unique process. Every detail, every color transition, every drawn line, it is all composed in a state of energized focus and involvement. Every cloud of smoke, every spark of fire, every bow and arrow, it is all created while being in a state of flow. In this way, a collection of six designs has been created, where each of them tells us a unique story about experiencing flow.
Let us take you through this process.
FlowStateAttire has a tight relationship with a professional design artist from Indonesia. We gave her the assignment to create something that’s more than just art. Something that will connect the wearer of the shirt with the person who’s on it. Six heroes, six outlines, six color compositions, six quotes, that’s all we gave her. By not restricting her to all kinds of rules, she freestyled making these six designs by following her own ideas of what beautiful art is.
We asked her if she could make the designs in a way that each of them tells a story about the person who’s in it. That each of them makes the viewer wonder: Who is this guy? What is his story? In what kind of flow state does he gets all the time? We made sure that the designs are brought to life, you can say.
We asked our design artist ''Isa Triyas'' some questions to give you, the curious viewer, a better insight of who she is and how she makes her beautiful art.
‘’My story as a design artist started a couple years ago, when I made art in 'WPAP' style. I was very good at this. I’ve won a various amount of WPAP championships in my home country Indonesia. This is also the country where the WPAP style is invented and further developed over the past few years.
As time went by, I started to get bored of this form of art. In my opinion, it has too many rules and restrictions for it to be called WPAP. Also as the time passes, WPAP will become outdated with the today’s world movements regarding design and illustration. Computer programmed art through AI makes WPAP seem a bit old fashioned. This is why I then decided to go in a different direction with making art.
I combined my knowledge of WPAP with my sensitivity for color and visual patterns. Where WPAP must have a firm pattern with no curved lines or areas, the illustration style that I created is full of curved planes and has lots of lines. If you look closely at my own style, you can see that it has a touch of a biomorphic style that gives the impression of it being formed from liquid''.
‘’These are the steps for how I make the designs for FlowStateAttire:
- First, I need a reference photo, the photo where the design will be based on. By changing the colors of the reference photo to black and white, I can see where the dark and lighter areas are. Then I can trace the photo much easier.
- The outcome of the tracing process is what I call the ’basic image’. On the basic image, there are only the global lines yet. These lines should not be arbitrary, as these lines emphasize the shape of the final result.
- I then add the requested color composition from FlowStateAttire, but I also use my own distinctive color composition with vintage colors that are unique to me.
- After I decided the definite color composition I go into the detailed stage. Here I add some extra lines, extra areas and some colors with a little different shade than the main colors of the design. When I show the result to FlowStateAttire, they often ask me to adjust a couple things. This then creates a process of receiving new instructions and improving the design, until all details are correct in our eyes. When we’re both happy with the final result, the process is done and repeated for the next design''.
The 'WPAP' style of art is characterized by a firm pattern, no curved lines nor curved areas and a color palette of many different colors.
The illustration style of Isa Triyas is characterized by a pattern with lots of curved lines and curved areas that contains a mix of the requested colors and the bright colors of her own selected color palette. It kind of looks like the design has been formed from liquid. This creates a sense of fluidity and movement, perfect for capturing the essence of flow.
